Committee

In 2008, in view of the changing economic/business environment the Association decided to set up four sub-committees to tackle specific issues that are of great importance for the industry.

Finance – Chaired by Alan Mason, the committee handles all issues that affect the financial, economic and business environment. Some of the works that the committee has undertaken includes:

  • Consultation with government regarding the taxation reforms
  • Consultation with government regarding the Foreign Exchange Act

Human Resources – chaired by Salvatore Puma, the sub committee has been most active in tackling issues relating to labor and manpower within the industry. Works effected by the committee includes:

  • Networking with the Ministry of Employment
  • Advocating the need for a GOP guideline
  • Setting up of a staffing database
  • Employment Act review
  • Representation on the STA Committee

Marketing – The committee chaired by Alain St Ange, works simultaneously with the STB Marketing Fund committee in marketing of the destination.

Ecotourism, Environment and Public Safety Committee - Chaired by Christopher Gill, the committee looks at environment and issue affecting the security and safety of members and visitors. Works undertaken by the committee includes:

  • Setting up of sub committees for North Mahe, South & West Mahe, East & Central Mahe and La Digue.
  • Networking with all the relevant agencies to ensure proper cooperation i.e. Police Department, AG’s Office etc.
  • Setting up of a private security patrol in collaboration with the police for Cote D'or beach on Praslin.
  • Funding for training of drug rehabilitation staff
  • Funding and assisting with the setting up of drug rehabilitation centre on Praslin]
  • Donations to Police in form of equipment to ensure efficiency.
  • Donations for the cleaning of Cote Dor beach.
